Suman Hothi, Registered Clinical Counsellor with BCACC (British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, #12285), has extensive experience in providing trauma informed training to frontline staff. Suman has provided training to Correctional Service Canada, Cheam First Nations, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center, Salvation Army etc.
Suman’s focus on trauma informed training is to provide a basic understanding of trauma, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and the mental health that surrounds trauma. Suman looks at vicarious trauma in the workplace, which often occurs on the frontline. Suman will discuss the nervous system, flight/fight and freeze response, the mechanism of the brain (amygdala and pre-frontal cortex etc), along with using research based studies to show the affect of trauma. Suman will also incorporate mental health concerns most commonly seen, how to recognize when these concerns are present and how to de-escalate and work with these challenges.
Suman will take into account the organization and the challenges faced with mental health and try to ensure that the training is relevant to the participants.
Please connect with Suman for more information and how she can tailor her presentations to your needs.
